Daily Show Takes ‘Racist Timeout’ For Trayvon Martin Coverage
Wednesday night’s edition of “The Daily Show” featured a discussion in which correspondent Larry Wilmore produced a home kitchen timer and declared a “Racist Timeout.”
“For the next five minutes,” he announced, “No one is a racist.”
Accusations of racism and reaction to those charges have caused the debate over the Trayvon Martin case to rapidly overheat. Wilmore’s declaration of a charges-of-racism free zone was a legitimate — but still funny — means of striking at some kind of greater truth in the argument.
